Girl Makes Unfunny Quit Video Complaining of Views Driven Media, Gets Lots of Views and Comedy Writing Job Offers

There’s been a lot written and said about the latest “I Quit” video to have caught national attention and gone viral.

In it, Marina Shifrin dances around to the Kanye West song “Gone” while the text reads out a laundry list of complaints about her job at the Taiwanese company Next Media Animation.

Chief among her complaints was that a view and click driven media culture is ruining content.

In the description for the video, which is titled “An Interpretive Dance For My Boss Set To Kanye West’s Gone” she writes:

“I work for an awesome company that makes news videos. I have put my life into this job, but my boss says quantity, speed and views are what is most important.

“I believe it’s more important to focus on the quality of the content. When you learn to improve this, the views will come.”

The views came in by the millions for Shifrin, which is remarkable and commendable but not completely unheard of considering how much people love these ‘I Quit!’ videos. Especially in a work environment where pulling long hours for less pay has become commonplace for far too many.

Many sympathized with Shifrin. Anyone working in media today knows she makes a valid point.

Others, however, cited her as a supreme example of entitled, lazy millennials, many of whom act before they think when it comes to releasing things on the Internet. Many predicted Shifrin would have a tough time finding another job after videoing herself having a bit of a rhythmic tantrum.

Notably, while the video was well produced and entertaining, it didn’t show off any comedic writing abilities. Yet that didn’t stop the comedy writing job offers from coming in, according to Shifrin, who told the Huffington Post that some of her favorite comedy websites had reached out.

Shifrin may not have to worry about even freelancing, as she has just been offered a job as a digital content producer for The Queen Latifah Show.

Looks like this millennial just might escape the tough life lesson that the working world is no longer what she was taught it would/could/should be; and all because she made and broadcast a video with technology that wasn’t available to the previous generations, in the service of making a video most over the age of 45 would be ashamed and terrified to even consider creating.

And it looks like it has landed her in a rose garden without thorns.

As for the rest of you, well, either get back to working those long hours, or make some crazy – but hopefully well produced – statement online and hope for the best.

Oh yeah, and her company made a response video that is pretty worthwhile in its own right.

So what do you think? Are you Team Shifrin or Team Next Media Animation? Sound off in the comments below.
